is a bare barb ok for shipping

I would like to know , what are the chances of a large ray (10") poking a hole in the water bag wile in shipping if the ray has a bare barb , I have always seen something on the end of the barb ,, I always thought that was for the safety of the handlers and to prevent the bage from getting poked ..... is it ok to ship the ray with out any thing on the end of the barb ?

I have never received on with a cover over the barb.

My rays were shipped from Netherlands to Iceland without anything on the barbs. No holes in the bags or any problems.

I think its just a handlers thing...
