if i have a pond filter running in an about 200 gal pond (assuming it's the right size filter) is that enough filtration to keep a couple, maybe a dozen, goldfish healthy?

i got plans and recently came across some supplies to add on to my crappy lil pond and maybe even make one inside, and the syastem we have been using sucks.

also how do you get a pump to pump water to the top of a hill to make a water fall? we tried atrting the pump (now that it's spring) and just ended up getting wet. we've been using a pool filter to try to pump the water up maybe a foot or so to the top of our waterfall.

Hmmmm, ummmm..., hell yah, 200 gallons is not alot at ll, you would want a 400-500gph filter... a aquarum filter like a rena xp3, ehime 2217, or a fluval fx5/304 will be enough...

the xp3 is my fave as it runs like a champ and its only $100

can any of those run the water up the hill?

How big is the hill? Most pumps should come w/ a chart showing head volume. That is flow rate it can pump up a grade or height of the slope. The filter might only be good in the pond itself. You may need another pump for the falls.

3-3.5' tops. so if it sin't enough, should i just get a sepreate pump for the waterfall?

hmm well ive decided to chane the pond to a 599 or 1000 depending on how much space my parents are cool with it taking up.
it's going in the backyard and is either going to be 4'X8' or 8'X8'. at this size a sump like devise would be best right?

W/D or sometimes called a sump, is the best, build it into a waterfall feature to hide it then it takes up less room and the return agitates/aerates the water (and Mom will think it's pretty :D (you have to appease the gods)).
