I recently purchased a 1" Jaguar (Managuense) cichlid about 2 months ago the

reason I chose this fish is because of all the information I found online stating

about how aggressive this fish becomes. I read that this fish will reach a max size

of 18", it is already 4" and hits feeders as soon as they hit the water. The Jaguar

cichlid is described as a bulldog fish that will bully, and possibly kill any other fish

thats put in his tank after hes established it as his territory. I currently have him

with an albino Oscar thats larger than him. My question is if this fish qualifies as a

monster fish???

Pretty sure...if catfish, oscars, and Dats qualify as monster fish....I dunno why a mean ass looking Jag wouldn't...they have all the qualities of a badass predator.

jags are monsters. be very careful with the feeders you drop in and make sure he gets a varied diet if you want it to get huge.

Not sure how big mine is, I'm pretty sure its over 12 inches, and I've never really measured. All I know is that mine has eaten 2 cats @ the size of 6 inches, and has devoured any dither fish that I've attempted to try. Not to mention that it is quite painful (just for a sec) when I'm bitten during the cleaning.

Here are some old pics of mine, about a year ago... (in the_gooch78 folder)

jags are definitely monsters. :D I used to have one that I kept in a 125 with a GT, JD and midas. I had to get rid of the jag because once it hit around 7-8" it completely took over the tank and wouldn't let the other fish out of the corner.

like rallysman said, if you really want your jag to be big and healthy, feed him/her a varied diet. you can give him pellets, frozen or freeze dried krill, frozen or freeze dried bloodworms, live mealworms, earthworms, night crawlers etc. the best way to feed live fish is to setup say a 20 gallon and breed your own platys or mollies. this way you know what they've been fed and you know they're disease free.

this is quite funny actually, this morning i awaoke to my 5 inch jag attacking my 12 inch jardini! i couldnt believe my eyes! however the attack stopped when my jardini cracked the s h i t s, haha it'll be a while till that happens again...

for sure. down right nasty fish. i had a 2" jag that would stand up to a 4" grommodes. wouldn't ever work but he did try everytime.
