Hi,

I used to keep discus, and with them s moving bed was pretty much a necessity, since then I have had one in every tank I have had regardless of species.

I now have very large CA/SA cichlid, and I'm wondering if I can take my moving bed filters or if my tank?

I have a 6x2x2, with an eheim pro 3 2080 for bio filtration, and a 2260 for mechanical....are the beds needed?

A moving bed filter is not a necessity for any fish. There are many types of effective filtration that will work just fine.

You don't really give enough info on your stock, but the two eheim filters should be effective on a properly stocked 180g tank.

Pretty heavy stock, I would be very cautious about removing any filtration. Especially if one of the filters on your tank is new.

I agree with Brian. Any kind of tampering with filtration with that kind of stock level could be fatal. If you haven't had an issue, I would leave it be.

I'm getting frustrated with it in the tank.

Should I leave it a week and read parameters?

lol

For one is the 2260 a new filter? If so then I would wait a month or so before doing anything. If the other filters are well established, what I would do is remove a bit of the media out of the moving bed filter each week. Continue to watch parameters closely.

x2 just another type of biofiltration, whatever works best for you and your fish is what you should use
