My neighbor basically has a fuge on his POND and it has bio media, rock and plants...

So could'nt I use this as a filter (smaller scale) on my new 180 im setting up?? I wanna install baffles in a 55 long to make the fuge from?!

If anyone agrees, what plants thrive in this situation? I do realize that *special* grow lights are needed to give the plants the needed lighting too.

Absolutely! Do a search on here, there have been several threads on this recently.

Most all aquatic plants (below water level), cattails are best but tall, and pathos, calla lilies, good luck bamboo, even letting the spiderettes from a spider plant lay in them.

Typically called "plant or veggie" filters for FW, instead of refugiums.:)

Hhmmm...never called them that.:D
And never known of a "fuge" on FW.
Then again I could be wrong, after all, "You Da Doc" :D :D :D

I hear fuge used more often on both fresh and saltwater tanks. They work well, and are a great addition.

I stand corrected, semantics aside. :) :)
