I get confused by those words, sometimes I think they're the same, sometimes I think otherwise. So are they the same thing?

A wet/dry trickle filter has bio media with the bacteria living on it. This is not under water, but has water trickling down across it into a sump below.
The water in this sump is pumped back into the aquarium.
So a WD always has a sump. But a sump isn't always a WD.
