so im reading this article... http://www.waynesthisandthat.com/brineshrimp.htm and this guy is saying that he doesnt use any salt to hatch his baby brine shrimp eggs. Can anyone confirm this works? He also talks about putting decapped brine shrimp in the microwave and feeding them to fry!? Has anyone ever done either of these things? Oh and the question i was trying to get answered... I have a container of decapped brine shrimp, Will they hatch if i try to hatch them? If so, what will the hatch rate be like? I did not decapped them, i bought them that way, and i beleive some are non-hatching?

Well there are different variations to the shrimp, which like differing salinity. However I would have thought that all like a bit of salt in the water. some of the eggs you can buy are rubbish and will never hatch hardly. The eggs will never all hatch.

Brine shrimp egg or cyst is whole live artemia encapsulated in a shell. When re-hydrated, the live shrimp breaks out of the shell. If ever it will hatch in pure fresh water, it will not live for more than a few minutes. Sure you can cook decapped cysts in the microwave but what for ? You can always feed decapped eggs directly to the fish as they are technically LIVE.

I found his page long time ago. If I still remember(and if he hasn't edited his pages), the reason he puts the shrimp in the microwave is to burst them and make a brine shrimp soup.

decapsulated brine shrimp eggs is great stuff for fry, i raised several spawns of red jewel fry with them, until they were big enough to eat baby brine shrimp (frozen).

i have eggs that are supposedly guaranteed 90% hatch, and they do hatch, but they don't survive more than a few hours. the fry will eat them dead or alive though, just remember to rinse them before you drop them in the fry tank. my ex just dropped them in direct from the hatching tank and killed an entire spawn of red jewel fry.
