Is anyone using LED lights, if so can you give me your evaluation?

Join the club :). I'm waiting on another member here, JK47, to post some pics of his new Double Bright that he was supposed to receive today. He's using it on a 120g 4x2x2, and I would be using it on a 100g 4x2x21, so if it looks good on his, it will look good on mine.

What size tank are you trying to light? the depth is going to be the important factor here.

The last thing those lights are is bright, especially not double bright. If you want max output, stick with T5HO. These have the output of a couple T8/T12 bulbs. Not even close to T5HO

I've found T5 RO to be equivalent of double bright LEDs. Marineland also makes reef LEDs that are supposed to be as bright at T5 HO.

I use the Marineland double brights on my 96x36x24. Two of the 36" fixtures. They are not bright, but they do give the tank a very natural look. If youre looking to light up the tank and show off colors, go with T5 power-glo. If youre trying to recreate a very natural habitat, these do that very well.

Not sure about T5NO, but a single 48" T5HO bulb puts out close to 5000 lumens. The 36/48" Double Brite fixture puts out 1200 lumens. The Reef Capable model puts out 2600 lumens.

Both are a far cry from the output of T5HO. If you want a real LED fixture, you'll have to go the DIY route or pay $600-1000.

Jose is 100% correct. I bought two and just got finished setting them up. The taller the tank, the more noticable the lesser lumens is. I Have a 36" T5HO on my 300 gallon (30" tall tank) that is more bright than the 36" double bright LED I just put on the 120 gallon (24" tall). I am not doing a planted tank on my 120 gallon and cared more about a nice looking fixture than brightness or lumens. My fish will hide if it is too bright (SA eartheaters). So for the application I bought them for, they are perfect. The double bright LED I just added to the 10 gallon looks like it's going to set the water on fire.

The fixtures are really nice and the LED is a MUCH cleaner looking both fixture and light in the tank than T8's I had before, crisp and white. And they shimmer like crazy!! (< pure awesome..)

So, JK, you think the Double Bright would look good on my 21" deep 4x2? If so, I think I'll probably order one this week...

Since its going to be an eartheater tank, and not planted, and I'm going for the same look you are...

If you're after a dimly lit tank, then they should work just fine. Another option is the 10w LED floodlamp. These put out 484 lumens and go for about $30 each.
