I dont see why it wouldnt, but i dont want to do it and find out the hard way.
Is aquarium salt ok for Bichirs? They have scales, so i figured i can put in the same amount as i do with my Cichlids.
1 Tbsp per 10 gallons.

And why do you want to salt the tank?

because it helps heal wounds. and they seem happier with it in there.

doesnt anyone here use a small amount of aquarium salt in their tanks?

And why do you want to salt the tank?

Ok.
I'm just asking if it will hurt Bichirs or not. I dont have any in my tank right now, but if i need to use it, i want to know if its safe for bichirs. THats all i need to know.

Limited exposure should not hurt them -Anne

Ok had to go check my notes lol 1teaspoon- 1tablespoon per 10 gallons should be fine-Anne

in some countrys they seem to think that its OK to add salt at every water change but unless the fish are brackish water fish or they are sick i cant see the point as it wont be good for the fish long term and if you do ever have a problem that could be treated with salt it probably wont have any affect

dude i use salt in all my aquariums from tetras to african cichlids. i use a VERY VERY small amount with my tetras and i keep a good bit with my african cichlids. i have never had a problem with any. imo it's a great thing to use.
