is it useful, when putting in new carbon i heard you must rinse it well, if i rinse it do i rinse it in regular tap water or a bucket of my aquarium water?? someone help please

i have 2 fluval 306 filters and they have the activated carbon tray, if i dont wanna use carbon what could i put in those trays, maybe sponges, or more bio balls?

exactly.. whatever you would prefer. personaly I always go for more bio-capacity. but if you want your water "clearer" go with sponges.

are those little ceramic bio pieces really as good for bio filtration as they say or is it a little overhyped , wat do u guys think cuz if there really as good as they seem ill invest in some more of those rather than more sponges, and do u ever have to change the bio or keep it forever?

I like the stars or balls over the ceramic tubes. Bb has a limited lifespan and the center of the ceramic tubes become caked with dead bacteria. Get something that's self rinsing, meaning that if the bacteria dies, it falls right off with the current in the canister.
