I have a 55 gal planted tank with 7 wisteria plants and three java ferns growing in it. th wisteria were doing fine until a few days ago the lower leaves are starting to turn brown. they are not dead yet but don't look so hot but the top of the plant is looking great. is it a light problem? top leaves blocking lower leaves? the java fern are doing fine and are actually starting to sprout new growth. i have no Co2 injector as i was hoping my fish would provide the co2. does this work? they are tiny blue spotted and banded sunfish. i have nine of them. Nay input would be great.

You got it right. Top of the plant is blocking the lwoer leaves.

I have a lot of nice peruensis which do the exact same thing. Easy solution, prune them.

co2 only helps plant growth. so if you want to set something up it wouldnt hurt any thing.. its hard for fish to produce enough CO2 for plants. but if you add co2 then at night you should have an airstone running because during the day plants use CO2 and produce O2 and at night they use O2 and produce CO2.

Chances are you're not going to be able to gas your plants to death.

I'd recommend against the airstone as you'll be introducing a pH swing.

how much light do you have?

you don't really need co2 unless you have high light
