Hi, i am new to planted tanks, but i am interest in a 10 gallon red cherry shrimp tank. I recenly bought about 40 of these shrimps and they have adapted to my tank. I also have 5 marimo moss balls and they seem to enjoy them very much. In addition, i bought 2 pads of the Xmas moss from ebay (planning to connect them to other pads and letting them spread)

i saw on youtube videos of diy co2 out of just bottles, yeast and sugar. Do i need this? I learned that adding co2 drops the ph, but these cherry shrimps need a ph of about 7.2. Is it worth the time to make one of these? thank you very much for your time.

I use one, it takes a ton of sugar.
Unless you keep up with it you're better off going without
The fluctuations in CO2 and pH will do more harm than good.

BTW - Use distillers yeast from your local brewery.

Since you have one, how do u keep the c02 and ph from not fluctuating? Would switching out a bottle every 2 weeks on a consistent basis work? Anyone else have any advise? Thanks

I just bought a bottle of Flourish Excel yesterday... it supposedly supplies co2. It is a liquid that you add to the tank daily. I will post a thread on here in a week or two about how it does, but I have seen some good reviews on it. This might be a good alternative to try out before you get more involved, a bottle is only $5 and should last for months on a 10 gallon.

Try a google search on it and see what you think. Seachem themselves do not claim it is as good as a normal co2 setup, but you should still see good effects.

I have looked into flourish excel, but im worried that there will be some effects upon my shrimps? Im trying to breed Red Cherry Shrimps and i dont know if this chemical will have any effect on their breeding or even kill them.? Anyone have experience with Flourish Excel? Thanks
