Am torn between eheim 2260 and 2080. Does eheim 2080 worth getting it, looking at the design of baskets am wondering isit efficient as a biological filter and does it choke easily.

Getting a 2080 over 2260 priority is because of noise level as my tank is in my bedroom but after searchin online extensively it seems like not so true on 2080 noise level is dead silent. Still kinda like a lucky dip to get a 2080 fr lfs, some are really quiet and some not much difference to 2260 hum noise even if u purchase new set. Reason could be mechanical condition (yes even if its brand new).
Another point to note is that 2080 a very sensitive and vulunerable equipment, easily damage?

Now the problem is if Im getting 2080 and found out noise level is comparable to 2260 I'll be damn as 2260 is far more superior than 2080. So should I take the risk or get a 2260 and think a way to minimise humming sound? Pls help!! My head is goin to explode soon.

I have two 2262's. If you pack them as recommended the mechanical filtration is not great either unless you customize your media and how you pack it. Eheim focuses on BIO filtration which is essential to the health of fish and not so much on mechanical which is pleasing to our eyes and not as essential as BIO. Nu-Clear, and Lifegard are great on mechanical filter but require an external pump and some plumbing work. Worst case, just us a HOB filter.

I've seen quite a few people recommend 2262 over the 2080. I've never had a 2262 so I can't really compare. I do, however, have two 2080s and I think they're great - very low noise and really efficient in both power usage and filtration. Lots of people say the mech isn't great on the 2080, but I haven't had any problems with mine.

Don't know about the supposed sensitive/vulnerable issue. Since Australian prices for everything are ridiculous I had my two 2080s shipped from Germany (even then it cost half the Australian price!). Both of mine have run perfectly since day one. If they can take getting shipped from the other side of the planet and still run perfectly I don't see how that could count as being too fragile.

For me I'm going with 2180's, and I'm in the same boat in trying to find the right ones. Although the 2262 is very good, it seems like it would be better at mech because of the gph. I really don't think you will go wrong with either one to be honest.

I have a 2080 and I can tell you that it is indeed dead silent. The trays in the filter are convenient but I think just getting a media bag for your biological media would be just as good, if not better. The mechanical filtration is not that great though as others have said. Might have to do with the dual intakes halving the suction power. The quick release tap on the top of the 2080 is a nice feature and makes it easy to disconnect the lines from the body when you need to service it. Of course lifting the beast when full of water is back breaking.. lol.

If I were to buy again I would go with the 2262. I think that the classic Eheim design is pretty hard to beat and it seems less likely to break.
