Today I almost got electrocuted when I touch the water in my tank.. It seems that my submerged filter wire was exposed by the crayfish :irked:
Is it ok to continue using the filter? I'm just worried the electric current would eventually kill all my fish especially a new arowana that I bought today.. God knows how long the wire was exposed... I'm really worried..
Please advise, thx..

Also, is electric current harmful to fish?

Yes it is harmful, read up on HITH (Hole In The Head) and Lateral line problems.

It's even more harmful (short term) to you! There is a liguid vinyl product you can buy at hardware stores to reseal the problem area(s). Takes a while to dry so do a W/C and put your filter material in the tank so the BB doesn't die.

doesnt sounds like HITH, more like hes bumped into something... theres a section here for deceases, you will get better answers there..

If you got a shock, then it's probably bad for your fish as well.

HITH is more often seen in cichlids I believe. The physical characteristics would be more of a pitting. What you're describing in the bala definitely sounds more like a bump or physical scrape.

its not good for them thats for sure.

But luckily for them, it doesnt shock them like it does you since they arent closing the circuit of electricity. You were shocked since you grounded the current.

They dont ground the current, so they wont get shocked, but the electrical current that is in the water has been linked to HITH.
And i'm sure there are other problems that could arise eventually.
