I probably should have asked first... but anyways, I had about a 1" gap around my HOB filter, so i blocked it off with electrical tape. the tape doesnt actually touch the water, i just wanted to make sure i didn't doom my fish by doing this. I had to close up this gap so my crayfish wouldn't escape.

The tape is probably fine, its the glue I would worry about. Every brand could be a little different too. I wouldn't worry, if its not in the water and its only a little it will get diluted enough with normal water changes.

Electrical tape works really well on the xp3 when you're trying to prevent air from getting sucked into the filtration system. My brother does that so that no air gets in. and the turtles are stlil alive

Electrical tape, however, doesn't tend to stick very long to anything but electrical stuff - mostly wires. Better check it frequently to make sure it's still where it should be.

hmm i put electrical tape around the pvc output in my tank and tape has pealed alittle will this kill my fish

I have used electrical tape to cover hoses and pipes for years in tanks and never had one fish loss. so i would say no problem.

As long as the tape is attached to itself, it should hold.

I can't imagine, however, a little bit of tape glue affecting fish.
