I thought red texas was a fader, after reading several threads i'm thinking its the common name of a fish now, is it?
Where can i buy one of these fish? I really like to be patient and surprise.

its a general term referring to any fish that "fades" or "peels".
red texas, jin kangs, any flowerhorn that fades.

oh thx, i saw few faders below, so pretty. dunno their name, looks like flowerhorn but no flowerline with yellow body.

if they have flowerline, they are considered faded zz's. if not, then it depends on their look.

One of the one's you saw was mine. He is a Jin Kang. I also have a JK/SRT cross with no flowerline.
if a red texas has flowerhorn, is it still a red texas?

Yes, flowerline or not has nothing to do with it. As stated above fader is more like an adjective for a fish that has gone from dark to a vibrant yellow or red and the color's in between.

in simple terms a "fader" is a fish that starts off dark and changes by "peeling" that dark layer off. under the dark layer is a bright colorful layer that can be seen.
it is just a genetic condition some fish carry...similar to how some people have red hair...
example: i have 3 flowerhorns 1 brother and 2 sisters from the same clutch of eggs... all are your average color flowerhorn....one of the sisters is now "peeling"...you can now see her bright yellow and reddish colors where her dark scales have "peeled"....
blood parrot fish also do the same....they start off life dark brown and black...then "peel" to thier orange red color...
