Is FX5 the best?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Best is a matter of opinion. It is a good choice for me I use them. Doesnt mean its the best choice for everyone.

Tell us a little about your tank.

In comparison to an Eheim 2262, no. But you also have to consider price. It may be the best bang for your buck option.

Howdy,

If you search this forum you will find plenty of discussions on that, including comparisons of specs. You will also find threads on fx5 malfunctions, but few or none on 2262s breaking down. Might have to do with the fact that fewer 2262s are used, or with better built quality. Get what you pay for? Search, read, and please post your thoughts.

I own 6 of these and all my tanks have them now with that said I loved my Eheim but it didn't to the gallons I was looking for. Overall the Eheim was a great filter I owned the 2078 pro3 E. I like the Fluval for the price and the gallons and I haven't had any problems with them. Price is great and they are a work horse for getting the Job done but that's my opinion. Thx!

The FX5 is definitely a great filter, I'm not sure if its the "best" but I do enjoy both of mine.

Comparing it to the 2262 is a little unfair, considering you can buy two FX5's and fill them with media for the cost of one 2262.

As far as filtration is concerned for your 125 a single FX5 coupled with your hob's should definitely do the job.

I am currently using 2 hob emperor 400s on a 125 gal w 8 large S/a cichlids and have been told I need more filtration. I have the LFS trying to sell me Aquatop CF500UV 5-Stage Canister Filter with UV 9W, 525 gph do you know if these are any good?

The Aquatop 500uv is good in my opinion . I had one of those on my 125 with about 8 SAs and it kept my water crystal clear.. I had a ac110 on it too.. Ended up taking it off because it wasn't needed. $130 on amazon

Just my 2 cents ....if you have 2 big hob's on a 125 you dont need to spend the money for the fx5,an xp3 or big aquatop should be plenty....in your case even a big sponge filter on a powerhead would do nicely
