Global warming alarmism mistaken - Princeton scientist

"The current alarm over global warming is mistaken," he told the senate environment committee during hearings on Capitol Hill Dec 22.
"I have spent a long research career studying physics that is closely related to the greenhouse effect for example, absorption and emission of visible and infrared radiation, and fluid flow. Fears about man-made global warming are
unwarranted and are not based on good science. The earth's climate is changing now, as it always has. There is no evidence that the changes differ in any qualitative way from those of the past...Computer models used to generate frightening scenarios from increasing levels of carbon dioxide have scant credibility.
Happer is an established Princeton University physicist.
He said previously he had "the privilege of being fired" by global warming zealot Al Gore from the Energy Department where he was director of research 1990-93. He was told in 1993 after he spoke of unwarranted "alarmism" that science was not going to dictate policy and that his statements must support policy.
He said of being fired: " I did not need the job that badly.
Back in 1993 Happer offended Gore and other climate change zealots by saying: "I think that there probably has been
some exaggeration of the dangers of ozone and global climate change, One of the problems with ozone is that we don't understand how the UV-B is changing at ground level, and what fraction of the ultraviolet light really causes cancer."
"We have lots of lovely measurements of upper layers of ozone in the stratosphere, but when we look around at what we know about ultraviolet light, the data is very sparse and what data we have shows very little change. If anything, it shows a slight decrease."
Happer noted estimates of UV-B reaching the surface of the United States far from increasing had declined by between 5 to 18 percent over the last century.
Al Gore had called CFCs an "acid" that had burned a "hole" in the protective ozone of the atmosphere allowing damaging levels of UV-B to reach the surface.
Said Happer later: "(On) global climate issues, we are experiencing politically correct science. Many atmospheric scientists are afraid for their funding, which is why they don't challenge Al Gore and his colleagues. They have a pretty clear idea of what the answer they're supposed to get is. The attitude in the (Clinton-Gore) administration was, 'If you get a wrong result, we don't want to hear about it."
Happer has had over 200 papers published in scientific journals and is a recognized expert in physics of spin-polarized atoms and nuclei, and in the application of these systems in other areas such as medical imaging. He is one of thousands of scientists skeptical about the demand of environmental radicals for drastic reductions in CO2 emissions.
