do rbp's need to be in large groups like in the wild...? or can they live fine with only a few in a tank ?(25g) i hear different things from everyone...
is having only two or three rbp's ok ?

RBPs need to be kept either singly or in groups of 3 or more. You may want to rethink the species you want. A 25gal will prove to need a lot of maintenance with 1 fish that can reach a foot or more in captivity.

Welcome, if a 25 gallon is all you have i would go with different fish. All piranhas get to big for that suze tank. What about some mollys, tetras etc. They are just as nice and are mor active!
