Hay all i just moved my ray to his new home add a nightmare with wrong substrate as my male is very very active, he rubbed his tale and claspers on on the wrong gravel so out it went . He is still very active he eats loads too but my worry is when he is on the tank bottom he lifts his front up should i be worried ??

maybe you should check back with your water, i think he kinda new with that water. sorry if im wrong.

i wouldnt worry about it... does he display this type of activity after eating? Mine do that after i feed them

No he just does it thats when he goes on the tank bottom which is not ofteren i even cought him glidden across the top which is not his normal thing . Water is fine other then his last tank ph was 7 and now its 7.4 is the only thing i can think of he as the same filters so god knows why the ph is higher in new tank ?

did you wash the sand out before putting it in? might be some sort of residue that is bugging him, gliding across the top of the water is normally a sign that you have poor water.

Yes i did it was only in tank 2 days i have done 1 50% water changes after i removed it and another 40 % 3 days after think i will do another 50% and add salt see if he changes hope so his wife wants to join him soon as shes add her babies lol

did you rinse the sand tho? normally you need rinse out the sand to get rid of dust and oil before you put it into fish tanks

Like Turkeyboy said if it's gliding across the top it's bad water. There may have been an ammonia spike or a lack of oxygen in the water. As for an increase of ph it could be due to the new substrate. Lifting of the front is probably due to some sort of irratation and it's allowing the water to flow under it. Is your filter outlets lower than before? Maybe raise them so the water breaks the surface. Maybe your filters lost some of there bio on the transfer.

I have 1 air stone and a 12inch bubble bar in tank so oxygen would say lots the filter same height as it was in old tank . I did rince and wash the substrate loads infact that much it took the skin of my finger tips when i looked anyway thats out now . I have just done a 50% water change and added salt see how he goes maybe he just misses his wife he not seen her in 2 months lol
