my question is

I just got 7 Juvenal (1inch) macaw cichlid Hypsophrys nicaraguensis.

From what I read it said that they can live in a high Ph. up to 8.4 is this true i know that the cichlids that do well in that high of a Ph are africans (so I thought) one sight said that the color and over all quality of the fish will not be the best is this true. they are in a high Ph tank right now

No worries Nate, Hypsophrys nicaraguensis will be fine at that pH.

A lot of rivers in CA come in contact with limestone at some point... Leading to a moderate to high ph/kh. Not quite on par with the rift lakes, but a lot of species certainly can thrive in some higher ph/kh water.

Absolutly, high PH is good. Some species such as Black Belts have been found in sea water.
