I found a 240 on craisglist with a cracked bottom. Can this be repaired good enough to trust it?

From what he tells me he's repaired it and it's full and holding water. To me it sounds like it has a large crack. Around 2 feet or so. No pictures, just his description.

He says it's around 72 long x 24 deep x 31 high.

I may be able to get it for around $200.00. Sound to much? I thought about getting it to use the front and back glass for a couple of ply tanks if nothing else. I'm not sure if this is a good idea or if it would be cheaper to just buy new glass. Haven't checked. I do have plans to build a 6x3x? tank.

Just thinking out loud and looking for opinions.

Thanks,

The question is how he fixed it. If he just put silicone over the crack, you should consider redoing it. It should be repaired with a piece of glass siliconed over the crack.

The cracked glass is still providing structural integrity to the tank, and silicone over the crack will sufficiently seal it. However, it wouldn't fly in my house; especially after moving it.

For what it's worth, I paid $250 for my 250g with stand and hood. And I didn't have a cracked panel. Good deals are out there, especially in these times.

I would not pay that price for a busted tank. Even if it is repaired it is still not as valueable as a nonrepaired tank. I never pay more than 1$ a gallon for tank and stand combo's. And .50 for used tanks only. I have 3 55g set ups and 2 125g set ups this way.

it all depends on the area where youre from. in my neck of the woods 125's used with no stands are going for 300+ pretty ridiculous but thats the way it goes around here. i would go for it just to use the front back and sides for ply tanks. front and back for a tank each, then another tank with the 2 side panels side by side layed on there sides, would make a short but wide tank pretty nicely.

Thanks for the input guys. I made the guy an offer of $100.00 for the tank. I figure I can't lose with that.

Anyone have any idea what a piece of 6'x2' glass would go for?
