My local LFS got several different sp confused when they came in...

She thought that these were Jags but really didn't know for sure...

So I knew that someone here would know...so tell me Jag or not?

Looks like a Jag to me...but the face seems odd, but it could just be the angle.

weird, the head isn't jaglike

Odd how?

They are about an 1". The one is much lighter then the other one. The other has very definite pronounced stripes.

If not a Jag...then what?

Perfectly normal shapes for 1" Parachromis species. Both are jags, and again it is very normal for fry from the same spawn to have that kind of difference in coloration at that size. My motas are currently the same size and have the same characteristics.

Sorry...I was just thinking that the mouth was really close to the eyes, but I just looked at some more pictures and they seem normal. So, it's a Jag.

Thanks for the ID help.

What causes the differences in coloration? When will they give a hint of their adult coloration?

Might be from stress, but they should darken up and show more spotting around 3"-4"
