Is it frowned upon to cross similar locales?

I see people crossing wild discus a lot. Usually locales in and around the alenquer region. Is this a frowned upon practice or is it just accepted because of how much discus are bred already?

There are always "Purist" that will complain about anything construed to be an unnatural breeding program.
As long as the breeding cross is between members of the same species & not creating hybrids, the Discus keeper community in general probably would not voice any concern.
Just look what Jack Watley did for Discus crossing different varieties.

I personally don't see the point, nor do I agree, with mixing geographical variants of the same species. Initially what may not seem like an issue, often changes when one stands back & views the results after a decade or two, or three, when those seeking certain collection locations for breeding purposes are left with a multitude of aquarium strain mixed fish. This has happened in pretty much every segment of this hobby.
