I have 2 4-5" baby gars, and I recently got some feeders for them but unfortunately, I didn't realize that the feeders was a little too big for them. So I tried dropping 2 feeders in the tank and amazingly, they ate it. The only problem was the feeder was a little too big for it's mouth but they managed to swallow them although it took them quite a while to swallow. I was so scared because I thought they were going to rip their jaws.. Are these healthy for my gars? Can they die from choking? Is of possible to rip their jaws? Now, I have to stop by my LFS after work to get some smaller feeders..

it shouldn't be a problem. my yoy gars used to do it all the time. just watch that they dont choke

Only once did I have a problem with this. It was with one of my Needlenose (Asian Needlefish). He ate a huge minnow that was actually supossed to be for my Spotted Gar. He struggled a bit to get him down but he did. Later on that day I found him dead on the bottom of the tank with a big hole in his stomach. The minnow must have moved or shifted inside and ripped right out of his stomach.
The needlenose isn't a true gar and real gars look like they have stonger skin so to speak.

wont be an issue. my yoy gars are tackling some huge feeders because they are with my older gar. they are have his size and they are eating his feeders

i was feeding my gar a gold fish a day, and there was one really big prego that was swimming with the gar, he didn't bother with it because of the constant supply. anyhow about 2 days after i ran out of my feeders i noticed that he had a huge! belly, it looked like he could explode i didn't think there was a chance in hell he could have eaten it but he was fine. Also before i have seen him eat when it looks like his jaw will rip. I have never had a single problem with him

this is what Im talking about!!!:headbang2:headbang2
