is it just me. when i feed my fish the pink little krill for a couple of weeks it seem to bring out more red in them. i have heard that food doesnt do this, but i would think that a fishs diet would have a bright or dull a fishs color. is this true or not.

yeah thats true the food does do that i feed formula one and krill to my fish..and they are all red and wicked bright and my river shrimp is a red color to wicked nice

sweet i knew it wasnt just me. mine get awsome red in there fins when i feed them the krill.

the ones im talking about are my. atf, tin foil barb, bluegill, pbass mainly. my other fish dont have to much color so they dont change very much. im feeding it to my silver aro and ill almost bet money that he will get some nice red in him if i feed him the krill

krill, shrimp and anything with beta carotene and/or astaxathine(sp?) will help bring out the red/orange color in a fish. I've heard that spirulina can help bring out blues and greens.

I know someone on another site who had blue eyed cichlids (Cryptoheros spilurum) from the same batch kept in separate tanks. she grew them up in the separate tanks and she fed different foods to the 2 tanks. in one tank she fed mostly krill and shrimp based foods while the other was fed spirulina based foods. now, the normal adult color of a common blue eyed cichlid is a grey/blue color. the fish that grew up on the spirulina based diet had exceptional blues and purples while the fish that grew up on krill were more of a goldish color from where the orange/red brought out by the foods overpowered the normal grey color. the pics she posted were proof to me that diet certainly plays a factor in a fish's color.

Live or frozen foods definitely bring out color.
