My two oscars have been acting really weird for the past week or so. First they turned over the wood structure i have in the tank :nilly: and then they started shivering, and that turned into a fight (jaw locking) and eventually they ended up slapping each other's tails. they have always hung out together, in fact they rarely leave each others side. Is this aggression or possibly a pair?

Its hard to say cichlids can have some strange behavior. I would recommend doing a large water change, kicking up the temp a few degrees, and feed them some frozen or live food. If you dont have a pot or a slate in there, then provide one and see what happens.

If that doesnt work, dim the lights and play some Barry White.

Check their vents. If they are pairing, they will be seen. The female's is strait down, and male's are on a slant. That is the only way to really sex them.

i can't really tell on the vents yet, although it looks like a little something on both, and now they are fanning the gravel away and moving lots of it, there are mounds everywhere. but it looks like they are liking a flat rock behind one of the fake plants. still no eggs tho.

:iagree:My female JD wouldn't lay unless I left the room - just watched it happen from outside my bedroom window instead :D
