It could be due to any number of factors, ranging from the materials used to manufacture (like petroleum distillates), to transportation costs that are beyond the industry norm, i.e. several part sources sent to a central assembly location. It could even be as simple as assembly location of the Renas. If they're made in a country that has heavy tariffs, this would effect the consumer pricing.
its interesting to note that before the price of the rena went up in the last two weeks, it dropped from the number one selling item over on big als oline, and the eheim 2217 took its spot.

i got my first one for $80 now most places are $160..... kensfish still has them for $115 for a xp3
