Is it metal wire mesh toxic for fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If it is stainless steel you have nothing to worry about. If it is the galvanized screen often used to cover vents to keep out animals I would avoid it. The zinc or residue from the ammonium chloride, or hydrochloric acid used in manufacture could bother some of the more sensitive fish and inverts.

could not agree more with the poster above ^^

Actually, neither ammonium chloride nor hydrochloric acid will survive being dryed.

Metals are not toxic in elemental form (including copper, zinc, and lead). But still, why provide a source to the aquarium. There are always better materials.
