Ok so I've had my gt since december (that's almost 6 months) and it hasn't seemed to have grown at all I do 50% water changes a week and all his tankmates have soared way past him in growth and they were all the same size or a little bigger when I got them except my mayan and my oscar they were about 8-9 inches when I got them. Here are pics of him the first one was taken when he was in my 90 gallon and the second is of him in my 125. Sorry for the bad quality of the pics I had to take them with my phone because I couldn't upload the ones on my camera right now

I think your "GT" may be a Blue Acara.

Sub-dominant fish can grow very slow. My Thorichthys Mixteco Gold was a runt for over a year. As fish got switched around and he moved up in the rank, he grew to his full potential and now rules the tank.

It looks to be a GT to me as I see orange on its caudal fin, but better pics would help. If it is a submissive fish in the tank that maybe the reason for its SUPER slow growth rate. Ive had mine since Nov. and shes gotten ALOT bigger. I got her at about 2" and shes pushing past 6" now with some good weight on her as well. But GTs are known to be super slow growers.

Just my $0.02

GTs are known for growing sloe but that one seems to have only grown maybe an inch in all this time.

I have had a female GT for just over 3 months and she has grown 2 inches

my the tail it looks to be a GT but the top shape of the body and the face remind me of a blue acara. I have both and my GT grew faster than the blue acara. I have heard that these two will interbreed and maybe that is what you have there.

what are you feeding it and what is the feeding schedule?

My females grow slower than my male, it wasn't until I took one female out and put her in a tank where she was the biggest that her growth took off. I think she gained over an inch this past month alone. My other female hasn't grown at all but keeps breeding with the male instead. She has another brood she is raising now. Once these babies grow out a bit I plan to move her to the other tank for awhile and see if I can get her to gain as well.

This is nudging the topic a little bit. I have 5 wild caught male biotodoma cichlids (cupids), sorry not monsters. But 2 have not grown from their 1.75 inches since I got them in December, 2 are gorgeous at about 3 inches and one is medium and inbetween. They all started the same size. They are all healthy otherwise. I was chalking this up to weak individuals that likely would have died in the wild. From what you say above, should I try moving the two little guys to another tank to see if it is social ranking affecting their growth rate?

looks like a little female you have there, have you seen her eating and pooping, she could very well have parasites or a bacterial infection, i ended up giving up on GTs since every time i have tried with them they have always been sickly with bacterial infections unless i fed them a mainly veggie diet all the time, as soon as i strayed from this diet they would start to get white poop again and then just stop eating all together, i love GTs but i just havent had any luck with them, so maybe yours is just sickly like the ones i had in the past...
