Is it normal for my spotted gar to like labor breathe under water

I just bought a 4 in spotted gar on Saturday, he is in a 75 gallon tank. All my levels for the tank are good, he is moving normally. The only thing I don't understand is it normal for him to like labor breathe under water.

What do you think it is, maybe he's stressed?

It could be stress or possibly gills are
effected.

There's also the obvious, how is your aeration? A lot of people like very still tanks with vary little surface disturbance. Might be the quickest and easiest thing to try too, if you can just adjust your filter outlet.

I would check an post the parameters to see if something is off, also take a pic and post it so people can examine the fish for various possible diseases.
