I am almost certain my fire eel and ornate bichir are eating, since all the food in the tank is nearly gone an hour later, and theres nothing that could possibly be eating it. I just have one question, is it normal to not see them eat? I know its probably a stupid question, but I see videos of bichirs and eels eagerly eating all the time. I understand this is likely normal behavior being displayed from my fish, i'm just a little confused.

I personally have Polypterus that are slow to eating food lol. If I stand there long enough they'll start eating. I have a few nocturnal catfish that will only eat either after lights out or if I drop near their pvc hideout.

I wouldn't consider a Ornate Bichir nocturnal.

Neither would I. But...I've had mine for like 10 years and I don't think I've ever seen it eat.

Just wait him out...he'll eventually get hungry...:)

I...and, I'm sure, many others...have had shy reclusive fish that have disappeared from sight for so long that I assumed they were long dead...only to have them appear unexpectedly months or even years later during a tank teardown...usually at some massive size.

When that happens...it's like Christmas...:)
