I just received a 10" Florida or spotted gar. Is it normal for them to hang out right at the top in the floating plants? Cause I'm worried it is starting to bug my silver aro.
Yeah, it's normal for them to sort of hang out at the top... they breathe air, so it's just easier, I'd imagine. Also, it's normal for them to lay on the bottom, and to swim in the middle of the water column... LOL they pretty much hang out anywhere.
K that what I thought, and after looking at some pics, it head shape looks more like a crocodile gar-type 1. One of the alligator gar hybrids. I'll post some pics later.
Cool photos would be great! Also, you might want positive ID, anyway -- it could mean the difference between a two-foot long fish and a five-foot long fish...
I have pics I just won't hve access to a computor for a couple hours. It's just a bit confusing cause it has a pattern like a spotted/florida but the head is really slanted and the snout looks like an alligator gars but it looks to short.
it's a florida. i'm sure of it. i have 2, with that same shaped head and snout. i'm not that familiar with gator gar shapes, but that looks like a florida to me.
