Is it normal for a male convict to be agressive with the female? Some days the male has the female hiding way up at the top of the tank while he patrols the bottom until she comes down, the he rushes at her scaring her back up to the top. When they had eggs they got along fine until i think the male ate the eggs...then the aggression started again.

This happens with all types of cichlids. Sometimes pairs aren't truly bonded and will "fall out of love." I've noticed in my tanks that this usually happens after they can't agree on what to do with eggs/fry. It sounds like your pair is in the same boat. The male ate the eggs, so he apparently wasn't ready. You should probably separate her now because he will stress her to death or kill her outright if he's angry enough.

I agree. Seperate them for a month and then re-introduce. They'll eventually bond and you won't know what to do with the fry... That reminds me.... Anyone want some free convict fry??? :nilly::nilly:

could be, he could just be staking out new territory if this is a newer tank. or the female could be ready to mate but the male isnt. never know. i never been in the situation before though. with all my years with convicts they all seem to bond. oh great i coulda just jynks myself!
