I have no problems but wanted to know if it is ok when i go to work everyday I turn on the tank light around 7:30 am and leave it on all day until I get home at like 7:30pm. Is this ok was not sure if it will cause problems down the road like algae, bacteria etc???

They have great color I feed them no live food only Silversides which they love to death !!!

I have 5 right now and will post some pics this weekend. I live in NY put my RB's are in NJ at my girls house.

I personally wouldnt leave the lights on all day.. you will most likely have algae problems. There is enough light during the day to keep the tank lit.. why waste electricity if you are not home?

Thanks for quick feedback i was thinkin yeah to just leave the blinds open and let them be. I will start doing that starting tomorrow. I always thought they needed the tabnk light for 12hrs for what ever reason.

Thanks again

I leave mine on for 12 hours a day (they get no light at all otherwise). I am starting to get some brown algae buildup on some parts of my Amazon Sword now though, I might start cutting the time down a bit.

general rule is between 8 to 12 hours a day. still, i find 12 hours a lot for a specie that is nervous under heavy lighting. i recommand you go buy a timer (like 5 bucks or so) and plug your lighting system on it. let it run for 10 hours.
also, regular lighting habits will help your fishes grow faster since it regulates better their metabolism.

I have one very dim light comes on @ 7am til 10.30, Then my main lights come on @ 10.30 til 8.30 and then the dim one comes back on from 8.30 til 10. All on timers to. not having any problems. and the reds seem to like it.
