I'm in the process of getting a marble goby and was curious on people opinions on this.

I know they carry disease and are kept in bad conditions but everywhere I try to find info on the goby they suggest feeding live feeders.

If I wanted could I just hold a ton of goldfish in a spare 40g I have and feed the ones that survive after a month or what?

The feeder tank is a good idea,I and many keepers use one.The biggest problem with feeders is a toss up between their low nutritional value and the parasites that they can pass on to your goby. While they are in the holding tank being quarantined you can treat them with anti parasite meds and foods. When they are ready to be fed to the goby you can then feed them a good quality food just before going in.

I dont have much knowledge of the fish in question, but what about breeding your own crayfish or some type shrimp? Would that work and you know it will be safer than store bought feeders any day...

Goldfish are low in nutrition, high in fat, high in thiaminase and harbor disease.

Im not sure how big the marble goby you are looking at is, but until they are larger than 5", they are highly susceptible to fungus. Even with quarentine, goldfish is just a poor option. If you wanted live, crayfish, livebearers and convicts are better options. IME, it is not hard to train marble gobies to eat pellets or frozen foods

I've never kept marble gobies but if it is not hard to train them onto other foods then the feeders don't have to be used at all.

imabout to aquire the same fish. ive thought about raising my own convicts to use as feeders just for that reason. I hadnt thought about shrimps but that is also a very good idea.

These are all great ideas, thanks guys. I'm not too hip on the convict idea because I've known of gobys to go weeks and weeks without eating and by that time there's a decent sized semi-aggressive cichlid to beat up on my goby. How about those stream minnows? The cold water ones? I can get a ton of those for cheap.

Goldfish aren't ideal, as stated already breed ur own cons.

Or do what's best and get them on a high quality pellet like NLS.

Shenanigans gave a great insight!

Here's a method I use for my fish: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?507349-EASY-WAY-TO-FEED-PELLETS-RIGHT-NOW!
