I have a 55 gallon tank with a hob filter.
I was wondering if I could put some bio filtration (bio glass, scoraging pads etc.) inside the filter......and would it work???

I just set up a 55G for an x girlfriend... (Don't ask...!!!)

I wanted to put a filter in that she could take care of so I went with a AC110. It has the foam, the charcoal and it came with bio max type media which lays on top of the charcoal. I know that they sell replacement media for all the AC HOB filters so check those out...

Why wouldn't it work? Ceramic or sintered glass biomedia is best to use. What kind of filter is it?

It's a wal-mart aquaculture hob power filter.

Is that the only filter on the tank? I just bought a Whisper in-tank filter for my 20G long & filled it with BioMax. It is basically a motorized cup of BioMax. My AC50 does well taking care of mechanical, chem & Bio, but the whisper primes itself & needs zero maintenance. Its just insurance since I dont see that tank on weekends. After the whisper colonizes, I'm thinking of running double carbon packs in the AC50 & letting the whisper handle most of the bio... Just an idea!

I have the power filter and a decent size sponge filter running.

I was thinking....leave the (blue filter) in the power filter but put bio glass or something similar before or after the filter. Make any sense?

I run AC110s on a few tanks and I no longer use the carbon as it seams to be a waste and I just added more Bio filtration. it works good and has been going for 2 years. my water parameters never changed when I pulled the Carbon. I just added more bio filtration and got it cheaper than buying the replacement bags for the AC110
