The best way to kill it would be to lob its head off with a large knife, machete or hatchet whichever it appropriate for its size
Ive heard a hundred times the freezer is painless but refuse to accept that I hate the darn cold and Im sure the tropical fish wont appreciate it much either

Um what if it has some sort of parasite or disease from your tank that is not natural to your little creek? Be a responsible fish keeper...if it were a dog would you just leave it in a park? Im sorry but so dumb

Just not a smart remark at all...no need to flame someone who is clearly trying to help. Im surprised you have not been jumped on by many others right now...or I guess releasing fish into the wild is cool now.
