I know a stocking thread, we all hate them but CA/SA are not my forte. I havent kept them for a long time.

I found a store that has nice GT's, Texas and Freddies (poss jag/freddie crosses not so sure) For the moment i have a 90gal with a blue diamond rhom in it he is probably going as i have a long vacation and noone to care for him. Was going to use this chance to redo the tank, let it cycle whilst im away. Which would you suggest? Im guessing even with an upgrade in near future i cannot do 2 of these without sexing first and these fish are all 3-4inches.

please help and you will in due time recieve pictures

I agree with your initial idea that it would be unwise to just toss two of these guys in your 90 gal and assume they will be friendly. It is possible, but details of individual aggression is essential...

How are you going to cycle the tank while you are away? A fishless cycle requires daily dopsaging of ammonia and cycling with fish requires frequent water changes (or harming the fish).

I was thinking of using bb from previous incarnation (in filter) and putting small pleco in whilst im gone to keep tank ticking over as there is enough algae in tank to keep it going. Plus i may get a person to pop in and check on it once in a while if i can find someone. I have already experimented by not cleaning tank for a fortnight and piranha even without his waste didnt look happy. Not to say i put him in any danger was watching parameters at all times.

so i think when i get back i will just do one of these, always wanted a show jag/ jag cross. Does anyone else have an opinion. This going to be a big refit from fully planted to to a minimalist driftwood and gravel tank, so i need as much good advice as i can get.

yes it's possible for it to work, but that is really up to the personality of the fish. but I'd think long term a bigger tank is needed for an adult Jag to not kill everything else in there with it.

Thinking i may just go with the jag and upgrade to 120 in a yr or less. They are only 3-4inches now.

At least i didnt get tempted by the arapima or the numerous red snakeheads they had, but am tempted by the rainbow snakehead. These definitly wont cohabit will they

Your jag will be food in about a year most likely ^

Mainly because the jag won't budge too much, since it's a big aggressive territorial fish.

Who knows though. If you get them both as juvies, with the jag being the boss of the tank for a long time, it might work out, but it all depends on theire personalities.

Personally i would never mix these fish, for the risk involved

but the dwarf snakehead probably wont get bigger than 8inches max the jag should be six in a few months not that much disparity in size?

I've seen 10" snakeheads annihilate 12" bass.

But again, it might work, and it might not.

Depends on the personality of the fish.

For all we know, you get a perfect match that will go exist and live happily together, but it could go the other way around.

i always thought channa behleri (mispelled i know) would be ok with other big fish

'runs off to check snakehead forum".......................

comes back with channa bleheri : Compatibility: One of the most peaceful Snakeheads, Territorial disputes can occur with other Snakeheads but it is rarely serious. Can be kept with other fish as long as they are not small enough to fit in their mouths.

max size 6inches

an already 4 inch cichlid shouldnt fit in that mouth?
