Is it really "Do It Yourself" if you have to ask somebody else how to do it?
"How do I DIY a <insert project here>?" is simply an oxymoron.

Thoughts?

ive concluded most people lack the logic and or common sence to figure alot of simple projects out.... but then again this is the world and life... and for the most part we all had to learn somewhere

whether you're getting the information from someone else or not you're still "doing it yourself" as opposed to going to a store and buying it premade.

so yes, it's still DIY.

Well, you are still making it with your own two hands, so it is still DIY. Just because other people are giving you input doesn't mean that you aren't doing it anymore. If you were to remodel a room, and had to put drywall up, you would screw it to the studs right? Well how do you know you had to do that? Because someone somewhere told you that it was the best way to secure drywall. That doesn't mean you are no longer doing it yourself... just my .02

I can dig it.. I just observed a couple of threads starting with <How do I DIY a "___">
and I think maybe there is something lacking in the general DIY attitude there.. Research is so easy these days without asking on a forum directly.. If you have already researched it, and had no luck finding any info, then it's ok to ask! (but be problem specific) And if the forum lets you down, just GUESS! Trial and error yall!

Good luck to all DIY'ers and keep up the good work!

I agree totally, research is key and there are many resources out there to learn from.

On the other hand research often brings with it questions so that's when to ask. Personally I have no issue with a 'How do I DIY X' type threads, if I have the answer I'm be happy to share the knowledge.

The biggest thing for me is that if the aquatic version cost X the same thing in a different field usually cost Y or W, this is where the info is crucial to save on the cash.
