to quarantine a discus... before i put em in my fish tank??? i am thinking about buying 1 more to add to my 5 in my 55g...i have a hospital tank at the moment with 2 of my discus in there for internal parasite...

can i qt the new one in there??

or even better... can i just acclimate him and then put him in the main tank?

Keep the new one in another tank for at least four weeks. It may not be a disease carrier but it still has to be quarantined to safeguard your healthy stocks and it's best not to risk the new arrival to the current infected ones either.

Hi There...The three most important rules for discus keeping

(1) water changes water changes water changes
(2) qt qt qt anything that is going into the tank and
(3) always have at least 4-5 discus in a tank unless they are a mated pair
If you follow these 3 guidelines you will love your discus keeping experience and your discus will smile.. HTH Sue

thank you all for ur help... i have not purchased a new discus yet... so at the moment, there are 3 in my main tank... is there going to be a problem with aggression while the other 2 are in the hospital tank for parasites?

The fish may be a little weakened at the moment by the parasites so normally, they won't really harassed each other. Do get a divider just in case.

thanks lupin. so i should start setting up a qt tank aside from the hospital tank... i have heard discus do carry internal parasites as one of the more common problems...

CAN i qt him in the hospital since the other 2 are in there for internal parasites??

I'd keep him in another tank. There is no telling for sure if he has parasites as well but I wouldn't risk a probable healthy fish.
