is it safe to put a glass in a tank ?

Hi,

I bought an glass or hard plastic jar from the dollar store. I just want to put it at the bottom of the tank for my serpea tetras. I am thinking they will want to play hide in it.

It looks like glass but coming from a dollar store it could be just some hard plastic. Do you think it's safe to put it in my tank ?

I know that some algea may form on the glass.

i got a plastic basket from the dollar store back in the day to encourage a hiding place for breeding and it worked just fine
