You can remove the rim for aesthetics.
If the tank has no center or corner bracing, make sure you bring several mops and towels to clean up the mess after you fill it up.

the op mentioned this tank was for a sump, perhaps the baffles will aid in the tanks overall support and thats if they use GLASS baffles.
 
That is a structural brace.
