I am looking for a cheap substrate (other than actual aquarium gravel) for my new set up. I cannot use sand because I will have a few HOB filters and do not want to ruin the impellers.
Pool filter sand seems to fine (also is priced @ $20.00+ per bag) and I was also hoping to go with bkack rather than white.
I found this product from a local store (Princess Auto) and the write up is as follows:
EBONY GRIT ABRASIVE (#55)
Ebony Grit is produced from a byproduct of manufacturing copper, which is processed into an abrasive by Optra Minerals. Typically it is commposed of ferrosilicate (Fayalite, Fe2SiO4) material and oxides, formed when molten slag is quenched in cold water. This cooling process fracrures the slag into course and angular paticles...........
Would anyone happen to know if this will be safe and non reactive for my aquariumd needs?
@ $12.00 for a 50 lb bag, it is much cheaper than anything that I have found locally so far...
Thoughts/Comments are appreciated...
