Just noticed my little 6inch Oscar is pushing away my 8inch Red Devil form a rock and started to clean away the sand around it .

that normaly means they are maturing and getting ready to spawn is it or not ?

Is it the male or Female that cleans off the rocks that stuff ?

Or can you not tell which ones the male or Fremale until they spawn and you see which one releases the Eegs .

no u can't tell the difference until the tubes shown ( female's tube is more rounded and short while male's is pointed and longer than females )

then u ll see that the female u already known from the tube is releasing the eggs ..

Ok thank you , i only have one Oscar so it's not like i am going to have any Fry swimming around in the next couple of weeks or how ever long it takes , but it is fun to watch a big fat Red Devil get pushed about by a 6inch skinny Oscar .

Then i will ghet some crazy Oscar Red Devil Hybrid .

Has it happened before ? 'Cos i havn't heard of it before .

I have never seen an Oscar hybrid of anything. To my knowledge, they won't mix with other cichlids.

I've never heard of Astronotus hybridizing with any of the Central American cichlids

we have a few fish that went through there ready o breed phases even though they were the only one of there kind, im glad its ver and the crators in the gravel are gone :) i would always give the one that could hybridize that look like "dont u guys dare"

could just be protecting and making his part of the tank how he wants it...

Yep , thanks for the feedback , the Oscar has stopped not and letting the Red Devil swim about ant way in the tank now .
