Ok, I have posted before about the growth rate of my female triple spot motoro....bought last Feb 2009 at 5-6 inch diameter, now at 20-inch diameter, over 30 with tail. She is in my 24 wide (72" x 30" x 25 high) and is now causing the tank to smell after a couple days after 30% water change. SHe is in with a small (8-inch) male hystrix, and a couple larger cichlids..........I feel the tank is now to small for her, and I dont want her to die from bad water quality. I am contacting local aquariums, but they dont seem interested.......what am I gonna do, as I cannot justify the cost of a larger aquarium, less then a year after I purchased the 240.........Is there any interest out there in the Philly area??/ I will not ship her......Is there any aquariums other then Camden, that may want a big ray? I am bummed about this but do not want the ray to die!!

Thanks for looking!

You might be able to find someone here on MFK with a big tank to take her. Just out of curiosity what/how often are you feeding her? 6"-20" in one year sounds like a crazy growth rate

6 in to 20 in in one year!!!! wow what are you feeding.

I Would say that that ray is to big for the tank. I think the genral rule with rays is upgrade when the rays nose and tail can touch both sides of the tank.

I hope you find a home for her. I love to have her but my tank is 2ft wide as well :(

can we see pics of this beastly girl?? :naughty:

6- 20 inches in a year. Must be the roids JK. My female half marble has only grown 6" in 16 months
and I feed her twice a day with 2-50% WC a week.

technically its 6-20 inches in 13 months......she eats 2x a day, market shrimp (5-8), couple crawlers, some krill, occasional fish filet, occasional tinfoil barb:irked:.......I do 25-30 % water cahnges once a week, and only in the last month did tyhe small/nigtrates start to climb a little..unfortunately for me, her growth rate is too much for me.....I will miss her, but she needs a real home. I never expected her to outgrow my new tank in a few months, she probably will nbe a genetic giant!??....the 240 ngallon tank is 30 inches wide, so she does touch both sides when sideways......I am working on a couple leads for aquariums for donating her, I will post pictures again , but its tough for me to do away from home......there are some pics on some former posts.

I can't think of any shops in the Philly area that could reasonably accommodate a 30" ray. I think she's be better off in your 240 than a tiny LFS tank. Have you tried contacting the Camden Aquarium? Maybe they could put her in their Amazon tank.

Yes I did.....and a few months ago, when I was worried about her growth rate, they were interested. Now they are saying that they are changing the amazon tank and dont want anymore rays!!?? Bummer, cause I love that display!

As far as keeping her, I will until I have a better home for her, but she is seriously big. Still working on some leads.............
