I have a teacup poodle of about 15 years now. Last summer, her eyes developed cataracts and she usually is blind. Sometimes the swelling is down and she sees but she is usually blind. She's considerably deaf too. I can get by with walking on a broken floor right past her without her waking up or interrupting her itching. Our poor little dog does fine sleeping when we aren't home but tends to act nervous and scared when we are there. She'll cry for us to come but just itches when we come. I'm leaning towards believing my dog is just suffering and there really isnt anything that can be done. Is it time to let her go?

Oof hard call. Obviously cataract surgery is very pricey and let's be honest that money is better put towards mortgage and car payments vs giving an old pup a few more years, if that would even truly help much.

How's her eating? Pooping etc? If she's having a hard time at that then I'd say it would be time. I never can find reason to justify prolonging a pet life where the animal barely can manage that. When my cat started acting this way we found out he had leukemia. Really sucks to put down an animal you've had for nearly 2 decades right before work. Especially when you interact with people and need to put on some joyous facade.

If she eats poops and such fine I'd give her a lil more time. Have you tried any anti itch shampoos or ointments? My westie is prone to harsh itching, as most westies are and it works great. Especially after I use him to flush out woodchucks and rabbit. He just dives down the hole and barks lol its cute. And he's not by shotgun fire haha

As above ( first paragraph excepted,mimho )

Im not bothered by the blindness. I'm bothered by the crying. She really has itched all her life. Its some allergy and I'd say habit. Her yeast infection stopped last year. None of the meds really changed it. It just stopped.

Eating and pooping is fine. No constipation, no dhiarrea, and no weird color. Got her on lamb and rice.

Have you asked a vets opinion? Is the dog suffering, or you assume it is?

I assume. A vet had said in the past that her joints would start hurting sometime because she had broken front legs once and has an out of place hip.

Update: When I'm with her. she itches and cries. When I'm away, she does the same but you hear the stress and pain more. I put my shoes in there next to her bed after I got done wearing them. Not a peep. No itching. I guess she's just lonely and needs something stinky enough to believe.
