I have this question for you all. I don't regularly frequent this site so I really do not know if this is true. Anyways, on another site I know this guy that is claiming that there are "scores" of people on this site who have anywhere between 10-20 full size cichlids in a tank of around 180 gallons (maybe a bit larger maybe a bit smaller) And I am not talking about Firemouths or Convicts, he is claiming the big boys (mostly Parachromis) I have had cichlids for many many years and I have a real hard time believing this. Anyways if anyone out there in MFK land have a set up like this I'd appreciate if you could post some pics. In other words is this guy full of (like I think he is) Or is there some truth to this?

Oh I would say that it is likely more true than you would think. Remember many fish keepers don't see it as cruel to stick a 4 Parachromis in a ten gallon tank... And then when they come crying to you saying that 1 killed the other 3 and what should they do... (Oh and these people that I am talking about were shocked when I said no a 20 tall wouldn't be a good enough tank for the poor jag.)

And then remember that people tend not to want to post there really overcrowded tanks since well they know it isn't what a responsible owner does.

Anyways there is a thread in the picture section of some overcrowded tanks though I have seen worse than those shown.

Yeah I agree! I am curious cause this guy keeps on mentioning this site-and how the water is top and the fish never have issues of aggression-hard to believe that. He insists that the people of MFK have done it why can't he-I feel for people on this site cause I think the guy is making a statement that isn't true.

Overcrowding American cichlids can have the same effect as an african cichlid stocking. Because there are so many fish for 1 bully to target, aggression is dispersed throughout every fish. More or less, no one gets injured. It can quite easily work and this guy isnt BS'ing. 10-20 is a huge number when dealing with large cichlids. I would say he hasnt got anything over 12.

Dude I just saw that pic--that is downright cruel-the fish have no where to swim-that has to be one of the most unattractive tanks I have ever seen-you mean to tell me you like a set up like that-poor fish-plus if you read the thread it was a growout tank!! Wow I cant believe you find that set up attractive!

:irked:Yeah I meet the Trust and you can meet Shamrock--Pancrase rules!! Anyways these fish were obviously crammed and not comfortable plus he was moving them anyways!!

I think the asians on this site have some of the best looking and rare fish that are available on the market so what if someone has the skill to keep a tank stocked to the gills (no pun intended) and i think what mytix was trying to say is temperment of fish no matter what kind can be somewhat calmed by overcrowding . But im not the expert i just have overstocked tanks:ROFL:

Well none of those are sa/ca cichlids, they are cichla and aro mostly.

10-20 full grown in a 180? I will call BS on that. I would say an acceptable overstocking of sa/ca cichlids in a 180 would be somewhere between 8-12, depending on the types of fish. I don't think anyone on here has 20 jags in a 180. Thats stupid.

My G/F has an overstocked 75, with 10 cichlids and thats the most I have ever seen, but more than 3 are firemouths or convicts, and some are growouts for me :D. But once again, not all are big, and its technically a growout tank.

Are you under 3ft tall? Don't act like you want to see something and then spam the thread...learn to use the edit option.....And poopsmart if cichla are not SA/CA cichlids...what are they? His tank owns and all fish are healthy....
