Just been reading on another website (fishprofiles.com I think) that Parachromis loisellei is not as aggressive as the jaguar...... is this true?

I think they are nearly as good looking a fish, could be an option for my new 125..... :naughty:

I have never kept a Jaguar Cichlid but I do have 2 Losellei in my 125 gal. From my experience they are no where near as aggressive as other cichlids. You might want to see this post about my losellei fighting. There is a video link and pictures of my fish. That video is pretty much as bad as the fighting gets. Personally, I prefer the look of the Loisellei because they are more colorful.
Hope this is of some to you.

Many thanks..... so do you think I could keep one (female?) with a gt or something in a 125g?

One Losellei and one GT should be more than fine in a 125. Especially if you have a long style 125. Given you provide enough decoration for both fish to have their territories. Actually I would add more fish, maybe some bottom dwellers to play it safe. I am of the opinion that less is more when keeping fish. It makes your life easier and in some cases saves the life of the fish. Please don't take just my word for anything though. You have my opinion about the loisellei but I have never kept a GT so I don't really know how they act. Do your research and educate yourself on the fish you want so you can make the best decision. Thats probably the best suggestion I could give you.

No worries..... Thanks for the advice.... I will be putting a few fish in there, but I am mindful of stocking levels. I personally do not like overstocked tanks. Just a personal preference.

I think it is more than personal preference to some people. But just a more fulfilling way of keeping fish. Many problems are avoided if you restrain from overstocking.

every fish is different, every fishes aggresion tendencies are differen't. if anybody tells you anything else there a fool. in general people have known loiselli to be more mellow than jaguars, that doesn't mean the one you get will be.
