LFS here has a large (at least 12") royal pl*co for sale. They are willing to let him go for $35 but I have a feeling I could persuade them to go even cheaper. He looks very healthy and well fed, however at this size his colors are already faded. I am tempted to snatch him up as this would be a good addition to my P. Spledida tank. Is it worth the money though? Aside from the color change, are there any other things to consider when purchasing an older panoque?

Also, how much wood would it need at this size? I have a smaller royal (about 2") and it seems he shreds through wood like there is no tomorrow. Before getting this fish I would like to know how much of it would be needed in order to sustain a big guy like this

Huge crap factory but definately worth that price.

Way too much IMO but if you want that fish you should get it. Only saying that because all too often I find people who have tanks with big common plecos they want to get rid of for free ("It was little when I got it"). I saw an approx. 12" pleco get auctioned off just the other night at a CCAC meeting. It went for 2 dollars and was in perfect shape. Just saying that a big pleco will find YOU if you keep your eyes peeled. Resturants with aquariums might be good venues to start investigating. Also fish club auctions.

Speaking of which,
Rally, you & JD totally need to start coming out to the CCAC monthly auction. I spent $24 dollars on a long list of stuff that would have cost me about $300 new including 3 flourescent tank hoods, breeding caves, huge box of filters, 11 fish, an ugly hex tank, & much more. Everyone was practically stealin' stuff, including that pleco I just mentioned.

If you consider 35 dollars too much for a 12"+ panaque nigrolineatus, it's a wonder that you have any fish at all, as you won't find ANY fish being sold ANYWHERE suitable for your relative price range.

No, I do not consider $35 to be an unreasonble price tag for an adult royal. In fact, I personally thought it was an outstanding deal! My concern is that while very tempted, I don't want to buy a fish just because it's somewhat rare to come buy around here(considering its size) and cheap. I wasn't shopping for a pl*co when I ran into this one. And BTW, I just bought me a 3" royal from the same LFS for 30 bucks only couple of weeks ago (there should be a thread somewhere in this section).

So after much deliberation, I am pretty sure that I will pass on this deal. It's tempting but adding a large royal to my 125 with its current stock level would put a major strain on filtration. Besides, I have a little one growing up and need to start making plans to have proper accomidations when he reaches adult size

If you doing mind could you tell me where this LFS is located (pm is fine) I currently trying to get my hands on some larger panaque and would gladly pay that price plus shipping.
